Top Ten Tuesday: Longest Books I've Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. I don't go out of my way to read really long books, but I'm happy with the page lengths on these.

  1. Winter by Marissa Meyer 827 pages
  2. New Moon by Stephenie Meyer 563 pages
  3. Tiger's Voyage by Colleen Houck 560 pages
  4. Cress by Marissa Meyer 552 pages
  5. The Hollow by Jessica Verday 509 pages
  6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte 507 pages
  7. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer 498 pages
  8. I Am Here by Ema Toyama 496 pages
  9. The Complete Chi's Sweet Home by Konami Kanata 480 pages
  10. Tiger's Quest by Colleen Houck 479 pages

Out of my list, my favorites are the Tiger books, Winter, and Jane Eyre. All of these I liked pretty well.
I will admit that Cress was my least favorite of the Lunar Chronicles. The Lunar Chronicles series
was definitely out of my element for a genre I typically don't read. I'm not the biggest into sci-fi
and for the longest time avoided the series because of that. I am glad I read it. I really love fairy tale
retellings. Jane Eyre is also my favorite classic, but it's been like 8 years since I've read it.

I don't go out of my way to read really big books, but it makes me want to keep that in mind and pick
some out at some point in time. Personally to me, I would consider anything over 400 a long book.
I know Tome topple is 500+ when the readathon is going on. Just curious, what do you consider a
minimum for a long book?

  1. Jane Eyre has been on so many lists this week. I'm a huge fan of that book, so that makes me very happy.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  2. Jane Eyre was on my long list for this week (but it got beat out by longer books). I know when I was searching through Goodreads lists of massive tomes, I'd see one I'd read and think to myself "but that wasn't really that long" and the book would be around 500 pages. Not that I think 500 pages is a short book, but most of my list is books over 1000 pages, so in comparison, those 500 page books aren't really "that long."

I will say that anymore a 500 page book seems more daunting now that I'm trying to read so many books to meet my Goodreads challenge goal and I'm busy with review reading and proofreading and I know those 500+ page books are going to take me so much longer to read than the average novel.

Hope you have a great week. - Katie

    1. I'd say. I think Goodreads goals can be daunting period, especially if your like x amount of books behind. I think it's cool you've read multiple books over 1,000 pages.

  3. Tiger's Quest has has a stunning cover. I'll probably check it out just based on that. But the page number is a little daunting.

  4. I feel like I used to read a lot more long books than I do now that I review for my blog. There are so many good shorter books that I tend toward those, maybe because I can review more of them? I don't know. :) Great list, though! I'm a Jane Eyre fan, too. Here's my TTT.

    1. I just like feeling I can read a book fast. I know with a long book I'm setting myself up for failure to read it fast. I get what you mean. I wonder how much more we'd read if we didn't feel like we had pressure to complete a book. I need to reread it some time.

  5. I'd say a book has to be at least 500 pages before I really think of it as long. Glad to see Jane Eyre made your list, that book was great!

    1. I know 400 isn't too long, but it's long enough for me! :)

I'm glad you enjoy Jane Eyre, too. I watched like 3 or 4 different versions after reading it.

  6. I consider anything over 500 to be a big book. Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorites. I haven't read beyond Cinder yet, but I hope to read the other Lunar Chronicle books at some point. Have a great day!

    1. Yay! I'm glad a lot of people are saying they like Jane so much. I hope you do. The Lunar Chronicles is a pretty enjoyable series. You, too!

  7. Winter was on my list too! I'm like you, I want to challenge myself to read a book over 1,000 pages just to say I've done it.

    1. I hope I can find books of that size. I might have to look at fantasies or classics to do so.

  8. I love the sound of the Manga book about the cute kitties. We are cat mad in our house so I think i'd enjoy that one.

    1. They have really cute pictures. I wish I enjoyed the story line more. It might be one I reread snippets of and see if I can enjoy it more.

  9. I loved The Lunar Chronicles books, they were awesome! I'm not much into sci-fi myself, so I was a little put off by that until I read them. They're more sci-fi light I think. Felt more like fantasy than sci-fi to me. I'm so glad I picked them up!

Oh, I didn't enjoy The Hollow. It's been years since I read it, but I remember really not enjoying it, and my review was trolled. I remember there was some controversy at the time that the author's husband was insulting anyone who gave the book a bad review, so I had my suspicions it was him. So although I don't actually remember much about the book, I have really negative feelings towards it.

    Great list!

    1. I'm glad I picked them up, too. I wish the last book wasn't so violent.

I never knew there was controversy surrounding it. I never finished the series and hadn't made up my mind yet. I hate that happened. There have been other books I've enjoyed that there have been controversy.

  10. Even though I read it recently, I forgot how long Jane Eyre was. And of course, Twilight seems a lot longer now than it did when I read them for some reason...

    1. Well, since Twilight is YA, maybe that is why it seemed shorter back then. There are some books, like Kasie West, that are YA I think it's really easy to read faster.

  11. If there is a classic book I could get through it probably wouldn't go much past 500 pages (like Jane Eyre). Also, seeing the Lunar books on so many lists this past week has made me nervous! Not sure I'll pick them up anytime soon. :)

Thanks for the Finding Wonderland visit; apologies it took me this long to make a return visit.
